Environmental Imapct Assessment (EIA)
Scientific Ideas Limited (SIL) has completed several EIA’s in Nigeria leading to development that is truly sustainable. SIL undertakes Baseline assessment, EIA, HIA and SIA.
SIL also executes independent Baseline studies, Social Impact Assessment (SIA) and Health Impact Assessment (HIA) studies or as an integral part of a broad Integrated Impact Assessment study.
Baseline studies are conducted to determine the pristine state of a given environment prior to the installation of developmental projects. It gives the background state of the environment to which further assessments will be referenced.
Environmental Imapct Assessment (EIA) is the process undertaken to identify and predict the impact of proposed activities, projects or development on the biophysical environment and man. The process therefore can define the associated problems and assist decision-makers in both the selection of the best option for any development and the consideration of the most appropriate management plans. By using EIA, both environmental and economic benefits can be achieved; such as reduced cost and time of project implementation and design, impacts of laws and regulations and avoidable treatment/clean-up costs.
Social Impact Assessment (SIA) includes the processes of analysing, monitoring and managing the intended and unintended social consequences, both positive and negative, of planned interventions (policies, programs, plans, projects) and any social change processes invoked by those interventions. Its primary purpose is to bring about a more sustainable and equitable biophysical and human environment.
Health Impact Assessment (HIA) is a means of assessing the health impacts of policies, plans and projects in diverse economic sectors using quantitative, qualitative and participatory techniques. Health Impact Assessment (HIA) is "a combination of procedures, methods, and tools by which a policy, program, or project may be judged as to its potential effects on the health of a population, and the distribution of those effects within the population."HIA helps decision-makers make choices about alternatives and improvements to prevent disease/injury and to actively promote health. SIL supports tools and initiatives in HIA to dynamically improve health and well-being across sectors.
