Scientific Ideas Limited (SIL) is a limited liability company incorporated in Nigeria under the Companies and Allied Matters Act 1990 in May 1994.
The company formally commenced business in January 1996 especially in the areas of Environmental Consultancy.
The Federal Ministry of Environment (formerly FEPA) and the Department of Petroleum Resources, accredits SIL as environmental consultants. The company is also registered with the Ministry of Environment in the states where it operates in Nigeria.
SIL is a Corporate Member (Associate Assessor Group I) of the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA), United Kingdom.

SIL is registered as a consultancy firm with a number of companies in the Oil and Gas Industry and has successfully carried out several Environmental Studies for some of the companies, such as Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), Total E & P Nigeria Limited, Texaco Overseas (Nigeria) Petroleum Company Unlimited, etc. The company is also registered with Chevron Nigeria Limited and Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited. Projects have also been successfully executed for some private companies.

Scientific Ideas Limited (SIL) currently collaborates with WDE Consulting Ltd. UK and ALS Environmental Ltd (formerly Alcontrol Laboratories Ltd. UK) to provide high quality services in the areas of environmental, social and health impact assessment, training & capacity building, remediation of contaminated sites, waste management strategic services, and other technical services. Together they have successfully carried out some work in Nigeria. It has always used its partnership with foreign firms to enhance the quality of its service provision to its clients. In the past the company had a ‘Teaming Agreement’ with Enviro One LLC located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Metairie, Louisiana, United States of America and in the past has successfully executed some projects in collaboration with DTS Raeburn UK and BMT Cordah Ltd. UK.

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)

This is a process undertaken to identify and predict the impact of proposed activities on the biophysical environment and man. The process therefore can define the associated problems and assist decision-makers in both the selection of the best option for any development and the consideration of the most appropriate management plans.
SIL also carry out Social Impact Assessment (SIA) and Health Impact Assessment (HIA) studies, either as an integral part of a broad Integrated Impact Assessment study or as separate independent studies.
We offer clients a multi-disciplinary approach to provide full EIAs for development projects.

SIL also undertakes the design and conduct assessment of contaminated sites. Contaminated site assessment will help to establish whether or not there is need for remedial action, identify site characteristics, pollutants and extent of pollution.

Environment Audit is part of an overall Environmental Management System. It is considered at SIL as a very important and useful management tool in projects.
Environmental audits identify the result of corporate environmental strategy. It gives a measure of its success. We at Scientific Ideas Limited undertake audits in specific areas of company activity and carry out full-scale audits of corporate policy to identify areas of environmental risk as well as assessment and quantification of compliance with regulatory standards.

Using standard approved methods and modern advanced instrumentation, we guarantee efficient, accurate, reliable and rapid turnaround of analysis with the assurance of stringent quality.

At SIL we undertake the design of and conduct Environmental Site Investigations to formulate monitoring plans for waste disposal sites. In order to assist clients in planning their disposal of waste, we also carry out sampling and analysis according to requirements.

SILis committed to doing business with the strictest HSE principles that ensure operational safety and care for the environment. We equally design, train and deploy HSE-MS for organizations to help them meet the requirements of industry standards and continuously improve their QA/QC systems. For clients already operating HSE-MS, SIL is committed to improving the performance rating of the management systems and improving the overall performance rating of the organisation’s HSE systems.

SIL also provides Training Courses.

Personnel

Environmental issues require multi–disciplinary approach. To ensure provision of qualitative, reliable and timely consultancy services to our clients, SIL adopts a structure whereby there are some permanent staff; these are strengthened by a host of third – party consultants. The personnel assigned to projects are based on its specific expertise needs.These consultants are people who have distinguished themselves in their various professions and they are selected from across the country and from our network overseas.

Laboratory Facility

In order to ensure quality service to our numerous clients and in view of the fact that we appreciate the great diversification in the range of analysis required for environmental studies; we have established a working relationship/understanding with ALS Environmental Ltd. UK to provide us with the required laboratory support from time to time in Nigeria. We also have access and have utilized the services of Alcontrol Laboratories in the United Kingdom for analysis of samples.
SIL has successfully used this arrangement to execute most of her jobs in the past.
